Vintage WW1 German Firefighters Helmet

£130.70

An antique German leather fireman's helmet from the late 19th or early 20th century. It is a type of Pickelhaube, the spiked helmet design used by German military and emergency services. The helmet is made of blackened leather with brass fittings, including a visor band and a top comb. The front plate features an armorial design with crossed axes and the letters "FF", which stands for "Freiwillige Feuerwehr" (Volunteer Fire Brigade). These brigades were numerous during WW1 across the whole of Germany. The helmet is complete and in very good condition for its age. There is a very minor dent on the comb at the top of the helmet and the leather shell and liner is complete.
