This cigarette box has the subject "The Irate Golfer" on the top - one of a series of characters designed by Henry Mayo Bateman for Royal Doulton. Henry Mayo Bateman (1887 - 1970) was a very popular social satirist contributing humorous drawings to most of the leading magazines of the 'twenties and 'thirties in particular Punch and The Tatler.
