Eckersley was traded again on April 3,1987 to theOakland Athletics, where managerTony La Russa intended to use him as asetup pitcher orlong reliever. TheCleveland Indians selected Eckersley in the third round of the1972 MLB draft ; he was disappointed that he was not drafted by the Giants.
