It is engraved to the rear: Athletic Society of Great Britain, awarded to Alexander C for Gymnastics, Liverpool 1869. The Athletic Society of Great Britain was established in 1860 and held an annual National Olympic Festival, initially at Llandudno and then at the newly opened Liverpool Gymnasium.
